ABOUT

JACK KANNENBERG IS A WISCONSIN BASED SCENIC AND LIGHTING DESIGNER. BORN AND RAISED IN SPRING GREEN, HE GOT HIS START IN THE PERFORMING ARTS AS A LIGHTING ASSISTANT AT HIS SISTER’S DANCE RECITALS. IN 2019, JACK BEGAN WORKING FOR AMERICAN PLAYER’S THEATRE AS THE HIGH SCHOOL PRODUCTION INTERN, WHERE HE ENJOYED WORKING WITH THE LIGHTING TEAM HANGING FIXTURES. AFTER GRADUATING FROM RIVER VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL IN 2019, JACK BEGAN HIS UNDERGRADUATE CAREER AT THE UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-MILWAUKEE STUDYING THEATRE PRODUCTION.

THROUGHOUT HIS TIME AT UWM, JACK HAS TAKEN ON A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT PROJECTS IN THE DEPARTMENT. STARTING OUT AS THE LIGHT BOARD OPERATOR FOR IN THE NEXT ROOM, HE ADVANCED TO THE ROLE OF HEAD ELECTRICIAN FOR HAMLET. THE FOLLOWING SEMESTER HE TOOK ON THE LIGHTING DESIGN FOR THIS IS MODERN ART AND WAS THE LIGHTING PROGRAMMER FOR INTO THE WOODS. DURING HIS SENIOR YEAR, JACK HAS BEEN THE HEAD ELECTRICIAN FOR THE MYSTERY OF EDWIN DROOD, THE SET DESIGNER FOR PIGGSVILLE, AND WILL BE THE LIGHTING DESIGNER FOR ALL NIGHT STRUT THIS COMING FEBRUARY. OUTSIDE OF THEATRE, HE HAS ALSO TAKEN AN INTEREST TO WORKING IN THE DANCE DEPARTMENT’S PERFORMANCES AS THE LIGHTING DESIGNER. DURING ALL OF THESE PROJECTS, JACK HAS BEEN VERY HANDS ON BY WORKING IN THE SHOPS TO HELP BRING HIS DESIGNS TO LIFE. AS HE HAS GROWN IN THE UWM COMMUNITY, HE HAS BECOME RELIABLE RESOURCE FOR THE YOUNGER STUDENTS BELOW HIM, AND HAS ALWAYS BEEN WILLING TO TAKE ON NEW CHALLENGES AND EXPERIENCES.

OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL, JACK ENJOYS EXPLORING NEW TECHNOLOGY AND LOVES TO COLLECT UNIQUE LIGHTING FIXTURES. HE SPENDS MUCH OF HIS TIME EXPERIMENTING WITH 3D RENDERING ON BLENDER AS WELL TRYING OUT CODING AND COMPUTER PROGRAMMING. HE ALSO LOVES TO COOK, SHOP, AND SPEND TIME WITH HIS FRIENDS AND FAMILY.

 

JACK HOPES TO WORK IN THEMED ENTERTAINMENT DESIGN TO HELP CHILDHOOD DREAMS COME TRUE. HE FONDLY REMEMBERS THE MAGICAL TIMES HE HAD AT UNIVERSAL STUDIOS AS A CHILD AND HOPES TO BRING THAT TO THE NEXT GENERATIONS. HE BELIEVES THAT ANYONE SHOULD BE ABLE TO ENJOY THE SENSE OF WONDER AND JOY THAT THEMED ENTERTAINMENT BRINGS, AND WANTS TO BRING INNOVATION AND CREATIVITY TO THE FIELD.
